Download both of these:

Scanner: http://support-sg.canon-asia.com/contents/SG/EN/0100273002.html

Follow the instructions here exactly.  Important to note is that you must run & use scangearmp to use the scanner.  Simple Scan doesn’t work.  Scan Gear gives you the usual options you see when you scan on Windows (dpi, paper size, image settings, preview, etc.).

    Thanks a lot!

Great work – foolproof procedure. I already had installed the driver under 11.04 with “–force architecture” in the install.sh. Now under 11.10 that didn’t work any more. The package manager was missing a libpopt0 even though it was on my system.
It’s a shame that Canon isn’t interested in providing proper drivers that install without modifications.

    Greetings – Tom
